The Rules of Healthy Eating
If you follow these basic rules then you should be well on your way to eating a well-rounded healthy diet. Additionally, just for clarity, check what you should be avoiding.

- Cook from fresh whole unprocessed ingredients that are largely in their original form.
- Have a complex carbohydrate, a lean protein and two or three portions or fresh salad, veggies or fruit with each meal.
- Include a small amount of good fats in your diet every day.
- Drink water, fruit or herbal teas or watered down juice.
- Know what portion size is right for you and eat regulary.
- Eat a variety of different healthy foods.
- Read the labels and understand what they mean.
What to avoid
- Fatty cuts of meat.
- Other foods high in fat (particularly bad fats).
- Processed or refined food.
- Foods with added sugar, salt and artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives.
- Artificial sweeteners.
- Takeaways and fast food.
- Microwave/ready meals.
- Fried food (occasional frying in olive oil is ok).
- Burned food.
- Alcohol and caffeine.
- Keeping unhealthy snacks in the house.
