Vitamins and Minerals
You can take a multi-vitamin tablet but they are not as easily absorbed as the real thing and cost you money, so why not get your vitamins and minerals from real foods like our ancestors have for millions of years. If you are eating a wide variety of the tasty natural ingredients recommended in the sections above then you will already have been getting many of the vitamins and minerals you need, but you will need to gain some of your vitamins and minerals from fresh salads, vegetables and fruits. These foods also contain some amounts of carbohydrate, protein and occasionally a small amount of fat.
Frozen vegetables are a good choice as they are frozen quickly after picking which means the goodness is locked in and does not deteriorate. You will also especially feel the benefits of eating green leafy salads. Fruits are also good to have, especially as snacks, but do not go overboard with fruit juices. They can be too concentrated and therefore too sugary. Fruit juice is much better than unhealthy drinks like fizzy pop, squash or coffee though. Watering juice down with carbonated water makes for a nice (less sugary) fizzy drink. Squeezing fresh lemon or lime into carbonated water also makes for a nice refreshing drink.
Have a couple of portions of fresh salads or vegetables with each meal and use fruit as a snack. Be careful not to over cook your vegetables as they will lose all their goodness. Steaming them is a good way to keep them nutritious. Try some of the vegetables, salad items and fruits below. Leafy dark green salads and vegetables are especially good.
